Approach To Care
Our top priority is safety, as well as the social, mental and emotional well-being of youth and families in care.
We recognize that each child and family has unique skills and experiences that make them who they are.
Our work builds upon individual strengths, creating partnerships that foster hope for the future. In working together, we engage in collaboration, empowerment and choice.
We work with youth and families, as they are the true experts for their distinct situations and goals.
As we engage people with histories of trauma, our goals are to:
* acknowledge the wide-spread impact that trauma plays in an individual’s life
* recognize the presence of symptoms
* understand the impact on development
* learn how to actively minimize effects without causing additional trauma
Throughout our Agency - Integration of Care at Gateway Longview
At Gateway Longview, we believe that a solution-focused, trauma-informed care approach has the ability to strengthen the knowledge, competencies, skill sets, and engagement as we work with individuals impacted by trauma.
We ensure that all services are client driven with access to early screening and comprehensive assessments. We value workforce development, safe and secure environments, collaborative outreach, and partnership building.
Three designated Gateway Longview staff lead our solution-focused, trauma-informed care initiatives. This begins with a two hour introductory session at orientation for all newly hired staff, long term volunteers, and contracted providers. Initial training is followed by a full, two-day course for full-time staff members, including support department personnel. Additionally, throughout the year, our leaders offer mentoring, ongoing trainings, and incorporation into monthly meetings.
