Youth Engagement Services/Independent Living (YES/IL) is comprehensive programming for youth who need additional support to achieve self-sufficiency. YES/IL provides services to youth ages 14 – 21 who reside in foster care, were discharged from foster care, and/or are pending a transition out of foster care. For some of the youth served, the YES/IL program will help them avoid homelessness.
YES/IL provides important educational, vocational, and independent living skills by enhancing the youths’ current abilities and talents. Staff work with the youth to help them:
- obtain housing
- seek & retain employment
- manage family dynamics
- conquer other difficult life challenges
The goal of YES/IL is to provide a wide range of services that will build on the youths’ strengths and prepare them for independent living. Youth in the YES/IL program work with caseworkers that are familiar with the juvenile justice, mental health, and foster care systems. The caseworkers also have the knowledge necessary to work with young adults who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
