Tim Girard named to Board of Directors for New York State Coalition of 853 Schools

Girard joins administrators from across the State to advocate for special education students

Gateway Longview’s Vice President of Education Services, Timothy P. Girard, M.S., was recently named to the Board of Directors for the New York State Coalition of 853 Schools. The Coalition represents k-12 special education students enrolled in 43 member agency schools across New York State. This includes Gateway Longview’s Lynde School on Main Street in Williamsville.

“The 853 Coalition Board of Directors advocates for, assists and represents invaluable special education schools throughout our state,” Girard said. “We remain dedicated to improving the opportunities and outcomes for special education students, which has been near and dear to the mission of Gateway Longview for more than 125 years.”

The New York State Coalition of 853 Schools was formed in 1991 by a cohort of academic institutions serving school-age students within the child welfare, juvenile justice and community services systems, many of whom were placed in a residential services setting, or within other group foster homes. Each program aligns with the educational requirements of New York State public school programs and works to meet the needs of students with individual educational protocol (I.E.P.) diploma requirements.

As a member of the Board, Girard will advocate on behalf of Coalition members to establish sound laws and regulations as well as generate adequate resources and support to help member schools better accomplish their work. He will also be involved in gathering and disseminating important information to schools in the Western New York region with respect to policy and other developments or changes that affect members’ abilities to pursue their missions with excellence.

Girard, who has been with Gateway Longview since 1982, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Loyola University, a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Canisius College, and holds permanent New York State Certifications in School Administration and Supervision. He is a member of the Developmental Disabilities Association of Western New York Education Committee and the Alliance for Children with Special Needs. As an educator for over 25 years, he looks forward to continuing to be a voice for New York State’s private special education schools and their students.
