Date Posted 11-18-11 Giving Thanks for a "Forever Family"
Three young brothers and sisters have something special to be thankful for this Thanksgiving and National Adoption Month. They officially have a loving "forever family." Kevina Lett of Buffalo, a single mother of three, adopted her three biological cousins, Miracle, 7; Kaniah, 6; and Kevin, 4 on Tuesday, Nov. 15 inside Judge Margaret Szczur’s chambers at Erie County Family Court in Buffalo.
The siblings have been living with Ms. Lett and her natural-born children since January 2008 due to neglect. For little Kevin, the gift of a permanent loving home is also a belated birthday present, as he celebrated his 4th birthday just two days before the adoption. However, all of the children now enjoy the wonderful gift of a forever family.
"These children are my cousins, and it's just the best thing to do," said Lett, who adopted her relatives through kinship foster care. "Being able to provide them with a loving and stable family life is the most rewarding aspect of adopting them," Lett added.
