Gateway-Longview Housing Project Receives Multi-Million Dollar State Grant

Buffalo, N.Y.- A $3.1 million state grant will support the construction of a first of its kind housing project on Buffalo's East Side. Gateway-Longview and the Matt Urban Center have teamed up to make Monroe Place become a reality.

Construction on the $5 million dollar community development project is expected to get underway in early 2008. The 12-unit, two bedroom apartment complex, will provide shelter for teens and young adults who have aged out of foster care and been placed in Gateway-Longview’s Transitional and Supervised Independent Living Programs. The complex will provide the housing while Gateway-Longview will provide the clients and social service support to transition the teens and young adults from dependent to independent living.

"We're bringing together the strength of Matt Urban's construction and community development and our strength in working with the foster care system," James Sampson, Gateway-Longview's President & CEO said.

Gateway-Longview is a not-for-profit organization that has provided care, counseling and support for children and families for over 117 years.
